From our Nutritionist… 5 Ways to Kickstart a Healthy 2022!

Written by Moyra Cosgrove, Head of Nutrition at Naturecan, SENR Registered Nutritionist and DProf candidate at LJMU

The Festive Season is upon us and this year, many of us are hopeful of spending happy times with family and friends. In all the excitement and with more socialising, it’s easy to eat and drink too much and not do as much exercise as we normally do. With that in mind, let’s enjoy the season, responsibly of course, and plan how to kickstart 2022 with healthy habits!

Firstly, let’s look at the things that may have gone, er, shall we say “out of the window” in December!

1. Sleep!

Late nights and broken sleep, maybe because of alcohol (more on this one later!) can leave us bleary eyed, with dull skin, feeling irritable and just plain TIRED! Plan to get back to an earlier bedtime and longer, unbroken sleep.

TIP: Try to disconnect from electronic devices at least an hour before bedtime. Read a book, take a bath or meditate, instead.

2. Water!

I don’t mean swimming (although that’s good too!) but drinking it.

Get back to carrying your reusable bottle with you and keeping it on your desk.

TIP: Try to drink a glass of water in between alcoholic drinks on a night out.

3. Alcohol!

If you’ve decided to ditch it in January, even for a while, this can really help to break the habit. If not, deciding to have as many or more alcohol-free days as alcohol-consuming days represents a big reduction in intake. Your body will thank you for it in so many ways.

TIP: Don’t keep alcohol in the house on the days you don’t want to drink.

4. Food!

It’s so tempting to over-indulge with so much tantalizing, mouth-watering food around. The key to change is to stock up with fresh vegetables and fruit, so that you have the ingredients for quick, healthy meals – you’re far less likely to order take-away food!

TIP: Delete the take-away food delivery apps (you know the ones!). Don’t keep the “pitfall-inducing foods” (you know your own favourites/weaknesses!) in the house. Then you can have the odd one when out, so you avoid feeling “deprived”.

5. Supplements!

Remember, no supplement is a substitute for getting to grips with the points above. There are no quick fixes! However;

VITAMIN D

In winter especially, the body cannot easily produce the Vitamin D we need because of lack of sunlight of the right strength.

Taking 10mcg of Vitamin D per day will help to keep our stores topped up.

If you already take CBD, you may be interested in this Naturecan product, with added Vitamin D: Vegan CBD Capsules with Curcumin & D3

OMEGA 3

This essential fatty acid helps to keep all cells healthy, and in studies has been shown to reduce inflammation.

You can find it in oily fish such as fresh tuna, mackerel and salmon.

CBD OIL

If you already take CBD, you may have experienced some of the benefits of this non-intoxicating, natural plant-based supplement.

Whether you prefer to take CBD as oil, in capsules, in food, or applied topically to the skin, there is a product for you in the Naturecan CBD range.

The team at NATURECAN wishes you a HAPPY, HEALTHY 2022!
